LaShaun Benjamin, Sr. served in the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of First Sergeant, E-8.
Mr. Benjamin retired after 20 years of service from the Fourth Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. His tours of duty and deployments included Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
After his tenure with the military, Mr. Benjamin immediately began giving back to his community. He began a co-teaching position in Leadership Education as a Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Instructor at Mexico Academy and Central School District in Upstate New York. This is a unique program sponsored by the Marine Corps that authorizes retired veterans to assist in educating our youth to become better citizens.
Mr. Benjamin utilizes lessons learned from the Marine Corps to inspire and encourage growth in others. He has an exceptional work ethic, dedication, and willingness to serve his community.
He strives to be a leader who is approachable and easy to talk with. Mr. Benjamin is passionate in all he does and has been observed discussing career options with his cadets and the youth who attend Tillie's Touch.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Benjamin is a person of incomparable integrity and character. He prioritizes honesty, respect, and kindness in all interactions and is committed to creating a positive and inclusive community. During his free time, he volunteers at his local church, The Promise Land Church in East Syracuse. His dependability and exceptional care for anything he does makes him a standout member of our community.
Mr. Benjamin is married to Tasha Benjamin, a Lead Advocate at the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center. They met while he was in the Marine Security Guard program in London, England. They are the proud parents of four exceptional children, LaShae, Tiesha, LaShaun Jr., and Naomi.
