James Fitzgerald served in the United States Army and obtained the rank of Staff
Sergeant E-6.

Mr. Fitzgerald is a highly decorated veteran of the Army, where he served for nine
years in the Infantry; his deployments included tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He
received the Purple Heart for his injuries sustained during combat in Afghanistan
while serving with the 101st Airborne Division. In 2014, he was medically retired
and honorably discharged from the military.

In 2014, Mr. Fitzgerald moved to New York City and, most notably, served as the
Deputy Director of the NYC Veterans Alliance. There, he established strategic
partnerships with key stakeholders and government agencies, and he managed
organizational policy initiatives at local, State and federal levels in support of
veterans.

Steadfast in his mission, Mr. Fitzgerald worked to ensure the pressing matters
impacting veterans and their families were addressed and continuously created
sustainable solutions for them. Mr. Fitzgerald has spoken on behalf of veterans in
major media outlets including Time, Fox News, PBS, Military Times, and NY1.

Previously, Mr. Fitzgerald interned at the White House during the Obama
Administration. He worked with First Lady Michelle Obama on Joining Forces, an
initiative connecting service members, veterans, and their families with public and
private sector resources in education, employment and wellness.

He graduated with honors from the City University of New York (CUNY),
Medgar Evers College, where he majored in Public Administration with a focus on
Law and Public Policy.

Mr. Fitzgerald is originally from Tennessee and currently resides in Bushwick,
Brooklyn. He continued his service to the local community through his
appointment to Brooklyn Community Board #4 (Bushwick). He was a member
of the Committee on Health/Human Services/Senior Citizens/Veterans and was
elected as Recording Secretary of Brooklyn Community Board #4.
