Mildred Marie Lovell

Mildred Marie Lovell opened Garden of Knowledge Day Care & Learning Center in February 2007.

A mother of four children close in age, Ms. Lovell would say she ran her first daycare center in her home. One of her children struggled academically and had major speech delays. It was then that she learned how to navigate the public school system and advocated for her child for the first time.

After several years working as a dietitian, Ms. Lovell made a career shift. She decided to return to academia and obtained a Master’s in Bilingual Special Education from City University of New York, City College. She became a teacher and then an administrator with the Department of Education.

Ms. Lovell went on to become an Applied Behavior Analysis Therapist through the Early Intervention Program. Entering countless homes and preschools to work with children on the autism spectrum allowed her to fine tune her expertise; Ms. Lovell worked with each child as if they were her own.

Sixteen years after opening, Ms. Lovell continues to operate Garden of Knowledge. With her deep commitment and unwavering passion, she provides therapeutic services to children on the autism spectrum, and continues to offer parent coaching services to those in need of compassionate guidance.

Special education is Ms. Lovell’s area of expertise. She has personal, classroom, therapeutic, and administrative experience resulting in a superior style of educating her students and their families. Although Garden of Knowledge was not created to be a special education school, it is designed to be a place where children can receive the necessary fundamentals as early as two years old. It also serves as a place where parents can receive guidance on tapping into other
resources when they notice developmental delays.

A resident of Brooklyn, New York for much of her life, Ms. Lovell was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and came to the United States at a young age. She recently returned to school to complete her Doctorate in Leadership and Education.
