Scott R. Cox served in the United States Army from February 1996 through February 2006 and achieved the rank of Sergeant. While enlisted, he was stationed at Camp Humphreys in Korea and Fort Drum in New York.

Mr. Cox served in Iraq from March 2003 to April 2004. Among his many duties, Mr. Cox was a Master Truck Driver who was responsible for the training and development of the Company. He also was a Section Sergeant, taking the lead to ensure the health, welfare, and professional development of 10 soldiers.

He completed both the Professional Leadership Development Course (PLDC) and Basic Non-Commissioned Leadership Course (BNCOC). It was during BNCOC that he performed lifesaving CPR on a fellow comrade.

His military service is decorated with numerous awards. Mr. Cox received two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, two Non-Commissioned Officer Service Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, a National Defense Medal, a Korean Defense Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and a Global War on Terror Service Medal.

He is also the recipient of the Colonel Everitte St. John Chaffee Award, the highest award that the Rhode Island State Police can award a civilian. He was traveling through Rhode Island when he witnessed a car accident; the car flipped and rolled, and an unconscious woman was trapped and engulfed in flames. Swiftly and valiantly, Mr. Cox put the fire out and began CPR until an EMS team arrived.

Mr. Cox is also involved in several veteran organizations and has held several positions within the VFW. He currently sits as the Adjutant with the Onondaga County Veterans Council. He devotes his time to helping veterans suffering with mental health issues and PTSD. His mission is to reduce the number of veteran suicides and raise awareness of the issues veterans face. To date, Mr. Cox has worked with and spared six veterans from suicide.

He is an active member in his community, serves as Den Leader for his local Cub Scout pack, and is entering his eighth year as a Little League baseball coach.
