John F. Boyd, Sr. served in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

As a veteran of the Army, Mr. Boyd supports and salutes our American military heroes and first responders. Throughout his professional and civic endeavors, Mr. Boyd has always kept his fellow veterans close to his heart. He was the general contractor who helped construct and fund the American Legion Joe Murphy Post 1957. Mr. Boyd remains active with the American Legion Post, and has become both a friend and mentor to many veterans and young people in his community.

Following his military career, Mr. Boyd moved to Roosevelt, started his home heating oil and construction companies, and has become a pillar of the community. His former oil company, Sun Star Energy, operated in all parts of Nassau County and the five boroughs of New York City. Under his leadership, the company grew to over 4,000 customers and 18 employees who were hired from the local community.

Mr. Boyd also operates a general construction company called Boyd Builders Inc. From its inception, Boyd Builders was created to offer construction-related services with a continuous emphasis on high-quality, integrity, safety, project control and long-lasting customer relationships.

He is President of the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce, holds the position of Vice Commander of the American Legion Joe Murphy Post 1957, and is a Fire Police Officer for the Roosevelt Fire Department. A hands-on type of guy for over 30 years, Mr. Boyd considers it a privilege to assist his community. A rock-solid member of the Chamber, he is a staunch advocate for business, civic, and veteran causes.

Through his community and military service, Mr. Boyd lives by two life-defining mottos, “Always believe in yourself” and “Try to gain knowledge every day.”

Born in South Carolina, Mr. Boyd graduated from Hempstead High School. He and his wife, Sheila, reside in Roosevelt and have three children, Frederick, Jessica, and John II.
