Bruce Mayfield
Honoree Profile
Bruce Mayfield served in the United States Army Reserve and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.
He served in the Reserve 98th Division from 1979 to 1987. During his 14.5 years of service, he attained the rank of E-7 Sergeant First Class (SFC) as a Construction Supervisor and Supply Instructor.
He was Honorably Discharged, and is the recipient of the National Defense Service Ribbon, two Good Conduct Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, NCO Professional Development, Army Reserve Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Wheeled Vehicle Driver Badge. He has also received the Jungle Warfare Patch and is the recipient of the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross.
As a member of the American Legion for over 46 years, Mr. Mayfield has been a member of the Milton J. Brounshidle Post Executive Board since 1982 and served as Past Post Commander from 1989 to 1990. He was also a member of the Post Honor Guard from 1982 to 2000. He served as Erie County American Legion Vice Commander and Erie County American Legion Baseball Chairman through 2022.
Mr. Mayfield is known as one of the most selfless and reliable individuals who truly embodies a “Devotion to Mutual Helpfulness” that is a foundation of the American Legion. He continues to volunteer countless hours to coordinate and plan Post events, supporting each of the Pillars of the American Legion.
Mr. Mayfield also serves as President of the Tonnewanta Veterans Club, managing the day-to-day operations of the 97-year-old Memorial Hall including scheduling staff, ordering for all hospitality operations, and booking of all hall rentals. He routinely volunteers his time, participating at Buffalo VA Medical Center Ward Parties, and shuttling veterans from hospitals to Bills games, Bisons games, Buffalo Zoo, Shriners Circus, and the Erie County Fair.
He has been married to his wife, Dorothy, for over eighteen years, and is the father of eight children and grandfather to 13 grandchildren.
