Petition To Prevent 2261 Bragg Street from becoming a Half-Way House for the Federal Bureau of Prisons

January 15, 2016

We the undersigned are urging the Federal Bureau of Prisons to oppose the proposal of the building at 2261 Bragg Street, Brooklyn, NY to become a Half-Way House.  The building is inappropriate for the location, due to it being within blocks of several schools and community parks within the neighborhood. Join Senator Marty Golden in helping prevent this location from becoming a Half-Way House in a neighborhood that is not appropriate for it. For more information, read the letter I have sent to Mr. William Prebble of the Federal Bureau of Prisons below.

Dear Mr. Prebble,

I am in receipt of a proposal submitted by the Rever Corporation in response to RFP-200-1293-ES, issued by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to operate a half-way house at 2261 Bragg Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11229, which is located about a block away from my district.

After speaking with members of Community Board 15, I support their opinion to strongly urge your office to reject this proposal. The location at 2261 Bragg Street is an unsuitable location for a half-way house.  Not only is the location not near any mass transit or employment opportunity location, it is located less than two blocks away from an elementary school, less than a block away from a Pre-K School, and three blocks away from a Special-Needs school.

This location is also situated in a densely populated area directly across the street from a community playground, and a few blocks away from the Sheepshead/Nostrand Houses, which are well known to the local NYPD 61st Precinct for criminal activity.

Along with the members of Brooklyn Community Board 15, I respectfully request that you reject this proposal for a half-way house at 2261 Bragg Street, Brooklyn, NY 11229.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Anthony Testaverde of my staff, or myself, at 718-238-6044.  Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Martin. J Golden
