Say No To New Commercial Barge Anchorages

The Coast Guard has proposed a new rule creating new anchorage sites for commercial barges on the Hudson River from Yonkers to Kingston. Six of these anchorages will be in the 40th Senate District at Montrose Point and Tomkins Cove.

The Hudson River is not a parking lot!

Our communities have invested too much in the revitalization of the river to allow all our progress to be undone. Having unmanned, unlit barges parked on the river creates the potential for navigational, environmental and homeland security hazards that will be detrimental to the ecological health of the river and wildlife and the economic health of our tourism and fishing industries.

Unelected rulemakers in Washington and Albany should not pass unilateral changes in the the middle of the night with little to no public comment.

This petition will be delivered to the Coast Guard as part of its public comment period.
