'Scared Straight' Forum on Drug Awareness

This Thursday, a drug awareness forum entitled, “Scared Straight” will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea School, located at 5411 Amboy Rd., from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

The  program is open to the public, but is geared primaarily to youth and young adults ages 12 and up.

Parents and caregivers are also invited.

The event is being hosted by Alicia Reddy, a registered nurse.

The program will include family members and friends who lost a loved one to addiction. Additionally, individuals who have overcome addiction will speak.

The Tackling Youth Substance Abuse initiative will also participate. The group is a coalition of people and organizations who have come together for the sole purpose of decreasing youth substance abuse on Staten Island. They will provide an opportunity for young participants to play WreckED. The game, developed by the Partnership for Drugfree.Org, is a fun and interactive way for youth to begin to develop tools to identify the risks associated with drug and alcohol use.
