Teen Driver Safety Program
On Thursday, May 16th, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, I will be partnering with Assemblyman Joe DeStefano, the Brookhaven Highway Department and Highway Superintendent Daniel Losquadro to provide a Teen Driver Safety Program located at 249 Buckley Road, Holtsville, NY 11742.
The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is referred to as the ‘100 Deadliest Days of Summer’ when the average number of deadly teen driver crashes climbs 15%. According to the CDC, teen drivers between the ages of 16-19 are three times more likely than drivers 20 and older to be involved in a deadly crash. Young drivers can experience the consequences of driving distracted or impaired during this program, which takes teenagers aged 15 and older through a variety of interactive exercises designed to replicate the impairment created by drinking or texting. Certified instructors discuss the importance of developing safe habits on the roadways. Teens then use electric cars to complete obstacle courses designed to simulate driving while texting and impaired.
Pre-registration and parent/guardian attendance required. Please contact the Brookhaven Highway Department's Traffic Safety Division at 631-451-5335 for more information or to register.
Keep our teen drivers safe this summer, register for the program today!
