NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 

SUBJECT:       Workers’ Compensation
PURPOSE:      Hearing on the Current State of Workers’ Compensation and Opportunities for improvements and modernization 

ORAL TESTIMONY BY INVITATION ONLY 

Workers’ compensation is insurance that provides cash benefits and/or medical care for workers who are injured or become ill as a direct result of their job. This is an essential benefit offered to employees, paid for by employers, and managed by the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board. The Senate Standing Committee on Labor is seeking updates and input from the Workers' Compensation Board, experts in workers' compensation, workers' compensation lawyers, labor partners, providers, and injured workers regarding the current state of workers' compensation and to bring to light areas for improvement. This discussion will help develop recommendations to build a stronger workers’ compensation system for all New Yorkers.  

Persons wishing to present pertinent testimony to the Labor Committee at the above hearing should complete and return the enclosed reply form as soon as possible. It is important that the reply form be fully completed and returned so that persons may be notified in the event of emergency postponement or cancellation.  

Oral testimony will be limited to 5 minutes duration. Ten copies of any prepared testimony should be submitted at the hearing registration desk. The Labor Committee would appreciate advance receipt of prepared statements.  

Attendees and participants at any legislative public hearing should be aware that these proceedings are video recorded. Their likenesses may be included in any video coverage shown on television or the internet.
