LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Samuel Gelfand upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2009 Sidney Mishkin, M.D. Memorial
Lifetime Distinguished Service Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality of life in the communities across this great State of New York
is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of those indi-
viduals whose singular purpose is the care and welfare of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Samuel Gelfand upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2009 Sidney Mishkin, M.D. Memorial Lifetime Distinguished Service Award
from the Nassau County Medical Society to be celebrated at its 48th
Annual Medallion Ball on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at The Westbury Manor,
Westbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Samuel Gelfand has given not only of his time and ener-
gies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Samuel Gelfand has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Samuel Gelfand has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and responsibil-
ities, Dr. Samuel Gelfand's ongoing efforts and notable achievements
have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life in his
community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Samuel Gelfand upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2009 Sidney Mishkin, M.D. Memorial Lifetime Distinguished
Service Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Samuel Gelfand.
