publicly acknowledge organizations of remarkable integrity and quality
which have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
its strong contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Members Handicapped Children's Fund upon the occasion of being inducted
into the Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame to be celebrated at its
Hall of Fame Dinner Dance on Friday, March 6, 2009; and
WHEREAS, For small charities, the NYSE's Members Handicapped Chil-
dren's Fund is like "manna from heaven"; and
WHEREAS, Since the nonprofit organization was created in 1983, it has
donated more than $4 million to schools, hospitals, camps and little-
known charities that help physically and mentally challenged children;
and
WHEREAS, Each year, many organizations receive contributions which are
allocated based on the amount of money raised and the number of funding
requests; and
WHEREAS, The contributions play an important part in the way of life
for many small charities; donations go much further than they would at
large national charities because the fund is managed entirely by volun-
teers who work on the trading floor or for the NYSE, and it incurs
virtually no expenses; and
WHEREAS, Members Handicapped Children's Fund tends to focus on service
organizations in the greater New York City tri-state area to help
parents keep their children local rather than sending them away to
school; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Kearney High School is very grateful to the Members
Handicapped Children's Fund for their generous support in donations,
which installed handicapped-accessible stations in its science labs,
making it possible for the physically challenged to be with their fellow
students, and in addition, contributed to the Study Skills Program that
assists students who are learning disabled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the
great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Members Handicapped Children's Fund upon the occasion of being
