LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Brother James Liguori upon the occa-
sion of his designation as the 2009 Westchester Business Leader of the
Year by the JOURNAL NEWS and the Westchester County Association

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community and their profession; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Brother James Liguori upon the occasion of his designation as the 2009
Westchester Business Leader of the Year by the JOURNAL NEWS and the
Westchester County Association at its Spring Leadership Dinner to be
held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Doubletree Hotel Tarrytown, Tarrytown,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Brother James Liguori is the esteemed president of Iona
College who is receiving this most prestigious honor in recognition of
his extraordinary 14-year stewardship of the institution; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his esteemed tenure, Brother James Liguori has
diligently served literally thousands of students, parents, professors,
staff and community members, but mere years of service do not begin to
measure his extraordinary contributions to Iona College; and
WHEREAS, Born in the Bronx and raised in New Rochelle, New York,
Brother James Liguori attended Iona Preparatory, the high school run by
the Congregation of Christian Brothers, and in 1965, he earned a Bach-
elor's degree in English from Iona College; and
WHEREAS, Education turned into a 44-year vocation for Brother James
Liguori, who began his career as teacher, principal and superintendent
at various school systems in the region; and
WHEREAS, As a visionary and major contributor to Westchester's econom-
ic vitality, Brother James Liguori exemplifies the Westchester County
Association's tradition of business leadership; and
WHEREAS, New facilities opened under Brother James Liguori's leader-
ship include the Iona College Arts Center, the Robert V. LaPenta Student
Union, the Hynes Athletics Center, plus renovations of the science
building and two new residence halls; and
WHEREAS, Brother James Liguori's efforts to improve Iona College's
academic standing included starting an endowment for more than 23 schol-
arship funds and pushing for the accreditation of its academic depart-
ments; Iona was recently listed in THE PRINCETON'S REVIEW as one of the
Best Northeastern Colleges; in a separate report, U.S. NEWS AND WORLD
REPORT ranked Iona as one of the top schools in the North; and
WHEREAS, Brother James Liguori has brought to Iona College an over-
whelming spirit of compassion, acting from vision and enlightenment in
conducting his administrative duties, while always displaying the high-
est standards of personal and professional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Brother James Liguori upon the occasion of his designation as
the 2009 Westchester Business Leader of the Year by the JOURNAL NEWS and
the Westchester County Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brother James Liguori.
