LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Shawn Dell Joyce upon the occasion of
her designation as the 2009 Woman of Achievement in Arts by the Girl
Scouts Heart of the Hudson and the YWCA Orange County

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Shawn Dell Joyce upon the occasion of her designation as the 2009 Woman
of Achievement in Arts by the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and the
YWCA Orange County; and
WHEREAS, Shawn Dell Joyce will receive this most prestigious honor at
the 17th Annual Tribute to Women of Achievement Dinner to be held on
Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, For 17 years, the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and the
YWCA Orange County have honored women in Orange County who have made a
difference in the community in their professional, personal or school-
based activities; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Shawn Dell Joyce has been
called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless endeavors
and has always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Shawn Dell Joyce is the founder of the Wallkill River School,
a nonprofit artist's collective; its mission focuses on the need to save
open space and small farms; and
WHEREAS, Exceptionally talented, Shawn Dell Joyce has won many awards
for her paintings; she has exhibited in nationally recognized museums,
including the Museum of Modern Art; she has achieved much success as an
artist, and has reached out to a larger audience as she continues to
bring the environmental focus into her works; and
WHEREAS, She is also the author of the well-known column "Sustainable
Living," which is published locally as well as nationally syndicated;
and
WHEREAS, Shawn Dell Joyce has continually demonstrated extreme compe-
tence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in her unwav-
ering service to her community and profession; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Shawn Dell Joyce upon the occasion of her designation as the
2009 Woman of Achievement in Arts by the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson
and the YWCA Orange County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shawn Dell Joyce.
