LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Brenda Torres and Edwin Flores upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the Unsung Hero Award by
The Westchester Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Torres and Edwin Flores have given not only of their
time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leader-
ship and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Brenda Torres
and Edwin Flores upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the Unsung Hero Award by The Westchester Task Force on Child Abuse and
Neglect to be celebrated at its 32nd Annual "Unsung Heroes" Awards Cere-
mony, on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at The Westchester Institute for
Human Development, Cedarwood Hall, Westchester Medical Center Campus,
Valhalla, New York; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Torres and Edwin Flores have been the Foster Parents
of their niece since January 2007, but were involved informally in her
care from birth, as they attempted to help their niece's parents care
for their seriously ill daughter; and
WHEREAS, Their niece was born with Tuberous Sclerosis, and as a result
has extraordinary medical and developmental needs; and
WHEREAS, Brenda Torres and Edwin Flores have provided extraordinary
care for their niece and have been wonderful advocates for her, all the
while caring for their own three children; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Brenda Torres and Edwin Flores have
displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brenda Torres and Edwin Flores upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of the Unsung Hero Award by The Westchester Task
Force on Child Abuse and Neglect; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brenda Torres and Edwin Flores.
