LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lydia Vazquez upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Unsung Hero Award by The Westchester
Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Lydia Vazquez has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lydia Vazquez
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Unsung Hero
Award by The Westchester Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect to be
celebrated at its 32nd Annual "Unsung Heroes" Awards Ceremony, on Thurs-
day, April 30, 2009, at The Westchester Institute for Human Development,
Cedarwood Hall, Westchester Medical Center Campus, Valhalla, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Lydia Vazquez, who has been employed by the Department of
Social Services for 20 years, has worked diligently for her families as
a Senior Social Caseworker in the Foster Care Program; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Lydia Vazquez joined the Sex Abuse Unit; this
program was expanded and the name was changed to the Multi-Disciplinary
Team or MDT; almost three years ago, the expertise of the MDT warranted
that their investigations be opened up to include serious physical abuse
and more recently, child fatalities throughout all of Westchester Coun-
ty; and
WHEREAS, Lydia Vazquez has been a valued member of the team from the
very beginning and has not lost her zeal for fighting for the lives
and/or rights of the children and families she serves; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Lydia Vazquez has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lydia Vazquez upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Unsung Hero Award by The Westchester Task Force on Child Abuse and
Neglect; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lydia Vazquez.
