LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Women of the Quilters Getaway Week-
end upon the occasion of receiving the You're An Angel Award from To
Life! at its 11th Annual Gala on May 5, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Women of the Quilters Getaway Weekend upon the occasion of receiving the
You're An Angel Award from To Life! at its 11th Annual Gala on May 5,
2009; and
WHEREAS, The Women of the Quilters Getaway Weekend, Lisa Fagan, Londa
VanDerzee, Mary Ann Peters and Bonnie Turner, are a group of friends who
come together several times a year, not just to quilt but to be togeth-
er; and
WHEREAS, In the beginning, their friend, Sue Sterritt, was suffering
from a relapse of breast cancer, and the Women of the Quilters Getaway
Weekend wanted to show not just their support for her but to other women
and their families as well; and
WHEREAS, Since 1999, the Women of the Quilters Getaway Weekend have
held silent auctions where the bidding is fierce among the 30 or so in
attendance who raise anywhere from $700 to $900, which is donated to To
Life!; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1998, To Life! is a non-profit organization
providing free-of-charge breast cancer education and support services in
a 10-county region, including and surrounding Albany County; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for the Women of the Quilters Getaway
Weekend and to wish them continued success in all of their future
endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Women of the Quilters Getaway Weekend upon the occasion of receiv-
ing the You're An Angel Award from To Life! at its 11th Annual Gala on
May 5, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned members of the Women of the Quilters Geta-
way Weekend.
