LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Ulster County Sheriff's Office
Patrol and Detective Divisions, and the New York State Police at Ellen-
ville Uniformed Force and Bureau of Criminal Investigation upon the
occasion of receiving the Police Chief's Association of Ulster County's
Meritorious Police Service Award on May 8, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York, there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Ulster
County Sheriff's Office Patrol and Detective Divisions, and the New York
State Police at Ellenville Uniformed Force and Bureau of Criminal Inves-
tigation upon the occasion of receiving the Police Chief's Association
of Ulster County's Meritorious Police Service Award; and
WHEREAS, This special event will be held at the Law Enforcement Awards
Banquet at the Hillside Manor in Kingston, New York, on Friday, May 8,
2009; and
WHEREAS, In the fall of 2008, both the Ulster County Sheriff's Office,
as well as the State Police at Ellenville had been receiving numerous
burglary complaints in the Ellenville area; a comparison of notes in the
cases revealed a similar modus operandi in many of the burglaries
reported to each agency; the subjects would go through the liquor cabi-
net of each home, and subsequently steal the same types of property, as
well as take any cash that could be found; and
WHEREAS, As in many major cases, the agencies decided to join togeth-
er, compare notes, and pursue closure of these cases; supported by
forensic evidence collected at the scenes, after a short time they real-
ized that all of the burglaries were likely committed by the same group
of people; and
WHEREAS, The agencies then pooled their resources in pursuit of leads,
which cultivated a lead through the examination of forensic evidence,
recovered property and computer records; this lead led to the arrest of
one individual who implicated seven others, ultimately resulting in the
arrest of eight subjects; and
WHEREAS, Leads stemmed from the eight arrests and in all, 26 cases
were closed between the two agencies, and a large portion of the stolen
proceeds were recovered and returned to the victims of these crimes;
this case is a major testimony of the teamwork which exists between
police agencies in Ulster County, and the expertise and investigative
skill of its police officers; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
