LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Frank and Helene Manzo of The Commons
upon the occasion of receiving the 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Award
from the Central Catskills Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Frank and Helene Manzo of The Commons upon the occasion of receiving the
2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Central Catskills Chamber
of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, When Frank and Helene Manzo bought a second home in Roxbury,
New York, they discovered the Commons Building in Margaretville, which
housed the Margaretville Department Store at the time; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing the potential of the Commons Building, Helene
Manzo conceived the idea to start a cooperative artists gallery as one
of the first steps in the process of revitalizing it as a shopping and
cultural destination in the region, which has now become the Longyear
Gallery; and
WHEREAS, Since that time, other local artists and craftspeople have
come to The Commons, including the Catskill Mountain Artisan's Guild and
Mountain Yarns and work is progressing for a branch of the famous and
beloved book store, Bibliobarn; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and businesses of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional institution and its contributions to the local
and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Frank and Helene Manzo of The Commons upon the occasion of receiv-
ing the 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Central Catskills
Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Frank and Helene Manzo of The Commons.
