LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Harvey Rosenthal upon the occasion of
receiving the Ed Roberts Advocacy Award from the Capital District Center
for Independence on June 3, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Harvey Rosenthal upon the occasion of receiving the Ed Roberts Advocacy
Award from the Capital District Center for Independence at its 12th
Annual Celebration of Independence Awards Luncheon on June 3, 2009, at
the Albany Marriott in Colonie, New York; and
WHEREAS, A former President of the New York Association of Psychiatric
Rehabilitation Services and, since 1993, its first Executive Director,
Harvey Rosenthal has over 20 years of experience working in a wide vari-
ety of community mental health settings; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Harvey Rosenthal, the New York Asso-
ciation of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services has achieved National
acclaim for several of its pioneering initiatives, including the Peer
Bridger Project that has helped over 1,000 individuals successfully
transition to the community from state hospitals; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as Executive Director and President of
the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services, Harvey
Rosenthal served as Director of Albany's Potpourri Club for 12 years;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Harvey Rosenthal upon the occasion of receiving the Ed Roberts
Advocacy Award from the Capital District Center for Independence on June
3, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Harvey Rosenthal.
