LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Ben Petersen upon his selection as
Warwick High School Student-Athlete of the Week

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Ben Petersen upon his selection as Warwick High School Student-Ath-
lete of the Week; and
WHEREAS, A senior track and field star, Ben Petersen vaulted 14'7",
which is currently the second best vault in the state and the best in
Section 9; extremely dedicated to the sport, he works year-round on his
vaulting as a member of the Warwick Track Team and the Hudson Valley
Pole Vaulting Training Team; since the ninth grade, he has competed in
track and field during both the indoor and outdoor seasons; and
WHEREAS, Maintaining a 90 grade point average, Ben Petersen will
attend the University of Hartford in the fall of 2009, where he will
major in Entrepreneurial Studies and minor in German; and
WHEREAS, A member of the peer mediation program and the homecoming
committee at Warwick High School, Ben Petersen is currently enrolled in
two advanced placement courses for college credit, including US History
and Marketing at Orange Community College; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his parents, Renee and Roy, his
brother, Eric and his sister, Lonni, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Ben Petersen has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ben Petersen upon his selection as Warwick High School
Student-Athlete of the Week; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ben Petersen.
