LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Bloomfield High School student-
athlete Amanda Moreland upon winning the New York State Class D Champi-
onship in Cross Country

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, A junior at Bloomfield High School, Amanda Moreland became
the first female state champion runner in Section 5 since 2006; and
WHEREAS, With a winning time of 18:55.26, Amanda Moreland was crowned
the New York State Class D Champion in her fourth straight appearance at
the prestigious season finale competition; her impressive finish ranked
ninth of the 581 female runners in all classes combined, and was also
better than 178 of the times posted by the boys; and
WHEREAS, Amanda Moreland's overall record is outstanding; she was
loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the
community at large; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Amanda Moreland has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Bloomfield High School student-athlete Amanda Moreland upon
winning the New York State Class D Championship in Cross Country; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Amanda Moreland.
