LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Sanfordville Elementary School
Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the occasion of capturing first place at
the New York State Competition on April 4, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State by achieving outstanding success in educational
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Sanfordville Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team upon
the occasion of capturing first place at the New York State Competition
on Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Binghamton, New York; and
WHEREAS, In its winning performance, the Sanfordville Elementary
School Odyssey of the Mind Team outscored, out-acted and out-thought 13
other teams in the Division I Earth Trek competition; and
WHEREAS, As a result, the six exceptionally talented members of the
Sanfordville Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team went on to
compete at the World Finals held in Iowa on May 27, 2009, where they
placed sixth in their division; and
WHEREAS, The Odyssey of the Mind Competition teaches students to learn
creative problem-solving methods, encouraging individual expression,
imaginative thinking and team building skills in order to achieve
solutions; and
WHEREAS, The extraordinary skills displayed by this team is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Shermane Carter, a second grade
teacher at Sanfordville Elementary, who has coached her teams to seven
state championships; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor the Sanfordville
Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team, recognizing the value of
their labors and the promise of their futures; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Sanfordville Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team
upon the occasion of capturing first place at the New York State Compe-
tition, and offer them its best wishes for a future of purposeful
success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Sanfordville Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind Team.
