LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ernest Lascell, Director of Instrumental
Music at Bloomfield Middle and Senior High School, upon the occasion of
his retirement

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
musical instructors within our schools who distinguish themselves
through their ability to inspire their students to achieve excellence in
musical performance; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting to acknowledge the significant milestones in
the distinguished careers of those outstanding educational leaders,
whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in developing
character and academic excellence in the young people of New York State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor
Ernest Lascell, Director of Instrumental Music at Bloomfield Middle and
Senior High School, upon the occasion of his retirement, to be cele-
brated on Friday, June 26, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Ernest Lascell began his career 30 years ago teaching in the
York Central School District; he left after five years to become the
Director of Instrumental Music at Bloomfield Middle and Senior High
School, a post he has held since 1984; the performing groups under his
leadership include the Middle and Senior High Concert Bands, High School
Jazz Ensemble and Marching Bands; and
WHEREAS, All of Ernest Lascell's groups have traveled extensively and
have been the recipients of many awards and distinctions; he is the 2005
recipient of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Musicians' Award for
Outstanding Music Educator of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Ernest Lascell has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of the Bloomfield Middle and Senior High School, as well as on the
community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ernest Lascell, Director of Instrumental Music at Bloomfield
Middle and Senior High School, upon the occasion of his retirement; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ernest Lascell.
