LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the Commu-
nity Club of Garden City and Hempstead

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 90th Anniversary of the Community Club of Garden City and
Hempstead on Wednesday, October 7, 2009; and
WHEREAS, The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead was organized
in the year 1919 at the insistence of the National League for Women's
Service in order to perpetuate the Community Spirit created by wartime
activities; and
WHEREAS, The Club is a Union of the National League for Women's
Service, the Hempstead Women's Club, the Civics League, the Garden City
Study Club, and the Shedowa Garden Club; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Long Island Federation of Women's Clubs since
May of 1920, the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead's distin-
guished record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Community Club of Garden City
and Hempstead; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Emilie J. Sair, President, Community Club of Garden City and
Hempstead.
