LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Roger and Sherley Hannay upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the Lifetime Achievement
Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce on February 12, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge those exemplary individuals whose purposeful lives
and distinguished careers have been committed to bettering the quality
of life in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Roger and Sherley Hannay upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of
Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Roger and Sherley Hannay will be honored at the Bethlehem
Chamber of Commerce's 24th Annual Awards Reception to be held on Thurs-
day, February 12, 2009, at Normanside Country Club, Delmar, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Roger and Sherley Hannay have been called upon to donate
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Roger and Sherley Hannay have contributed to
numerous community organizations while devoting their lives to building
Hannay Reels Inc. in Westerlo, New York; the business was started 75
years ago by Roger's grandfather; and
WHEREAS, Hannay Reels Inc. has handcrafted and delivered millions of
reels since its inception in 1933; pride in workmanship, reels built to
order, consistent quality, service with integrity, value for your
dollar, is the The Hannay Way, and has been its foundation since day
one; and
WHEREAS, Central to The Hannay Way is its culture as a family owned
and operated company that believes in manufacturing the best quality
product while remaining accountable; Hannay Reels is dedicated to
listening to each customer's unique needs, and delivering a customized
solution that exceeds expectations, every time; and
WHEREAS, The Hannay name is recognized for unmatched quality and reli-
ability all around the world, and this is due in large part to the tire-
less efforts of Roger and Sherley Hannay; and
WHEREAS, Roger Hannay was recently named the State's small business
champion by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB); each
year, NFIB picks one individual from each state; Roger was recognized
for his 20 years as an outspoken advocate for the rights of entrepre-
neurs and small-business owners in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Roger and Sherley Hannay have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Roger and Sherley Hannay have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roger and Sherley Hannay upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Roger and Sherley Hannay.
