LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Carter Bales upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Environmental Advocates of
New York State on Tuesday, November 10, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to duly recognize and
commend those individuals of high purpose and dedicated service who have
devoted their lives and careers to the vital work of environmental
protection; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Carter Bales upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by the Environmental Advocates of New York State at its Advocate
Awards Gala to be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at the Yale Club
in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Carter Bales is being honored by the Environmental Advocates
of New York State for his outstanding achievements and unwavering
commitment to the cause of environmental protection and stewardship; and
WHEREAS, A nationally recognized expert on the economics and solutions
of climate change, Carter Bales is the Managing Partner Emeritus of The
Wicks Group, a private equity firm which he co-founded in 1989; he has
held senior positions with McKinsey & Company, the international manage-
ment consulting firm, from which he retired in 1998, and is currently
the Chairman of the North Shore Land Alliance; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Carter Bales is the trustee of the Grand Canyon
Trust and the Echoing Green Foundation, and Vice Chair of the New York
State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation; and
WHEREAS, Carter Bales has also served as Governor and Vice Chairman of
The Nature Conservancy and continues as a trustee of the New York State
and Adirondack chapters; and
WHEREAS, Carter Bales's ongoing efforts and notable achievements have
significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life throughout
New York State; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of individuals such as Carter Bales who work tirelessly on
behalf of protecting our natural surroundings for the benefit of present
and future generations of New Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Carter Bales upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Environmental Advocates of New York State; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carter Bales.
