LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Andrew H. Darrell upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the Environmental Advocates
of New York State on Tuesday, November 10, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to duly recognize and
commend those individuals of high purpose and dedicated service who have
devoted their lives and careers to the vital work of environmental
protection; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Andrew H. Darrell upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Environmental Advocates of New York State at its
Advocate Awards Gala to be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at the
Yale Club in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Darrell is being honored by the Environmental Advo-
cates of New York State for his outstanding achievements and unwavering
commitment to the cause of environmental protection and stewardship; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as director of the New York Region at
Environmental Defense, Andrew Darrell is also the co-director of our
LIVING CITIES program for the urban environment; he was previously Exec-
utive Director of the Waterfront Park Coalition, an alliance of environ-
mental and community groups dedicated to revitalization of waterfront
neighborhoods in New York City's five boroughs; he has also served as
Executive Director of the Hudson River Park Alliance, which played a
leading role in creating a new five-mile waterfront park in Manhattan;
and
WHEREAS, Andrew Darrell is a trustee of the Van Alen Institute, which
fosters quality design for urban public spaces, and of Columbia Univer-
sity's International House; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Darrell's ongoing efforts and notable achievements
have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life through-
out New York State; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of individuals such as Andrew Darrell who work tirelessly on
behalf of protecting our natural surroundings for the benefit of present
and future generations of New Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Andrew H. Darrell upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Environmental Advocates of New York State;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Andrew H. Darrell.
