LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Richard Ravitch upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the Environmental Advocates
of New York State on Tuesday, November 10, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to duly recognize and
commend those individuals of high purpose and dedicated service who have
devoted their lives and careers to the vital work of environmental
protection; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Richard Ravitch upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-
nition by the Environmental Advocates of New York State at its Advocate
Awards Gala to be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at the Yale Club
in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Richard Ravitch is being honored by the Environmental Advo-
cates of New York State for his outstanding achievement and unwavering
commitment to the cause of environmental protection and stewardship; and
WHEREAS, Richard Ravitch has led public and private efforts to improve
the New York City metropolitan area's public transportation system for
almost 20 years; he serves as Principal of Ravitch Rice & Company LLC,
and as Chairman of Waterside Management Company; and
WHEREAS, Richard Ravitch has served as the Chair of the New York State
Urban Development Corporation and is past Board Chairman of the Metro-
politan Transportation Authority; he most recently has been appointed by
Governor David Paterson to serve as New York State's Lieutenant Gover-
nor; and
WHEREAS, Richard Ravitch's ongoing efforts and notable achievements
have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life through-
out New York State; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of individuals such as Richard Ravitch who work tirelessly
on behalf of protecting our natural surroundings for the benefit of
present and future generations of New Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Richard Ravitch upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Environmental Advocates of New York State; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard Ravitch.
