LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the dedication of Lance Corporal
William J. Partington Memorial Drive

WHEREAS, The commitment and sacrifices of our military personnel ensure
our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of democracy,
and as a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commem-
orate the dedication of Lance Corporal William J. Partington Memorial
Drive; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday,
November 28, 2009, at the American Legion in Marlboro, New York, in
recognition of Lance Corporal William J. Partington, a Vietnam veteran
who gave the ultimate sacrifice serving his country; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 15, 1949, William Jay was the son of George
and Florence Partington; his four siblings are Diana, Robin, Charles and
Bruce; and
WHEREAS, He was born and raised in Marlboro, New York, graduated from
Marlboro High School, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps the
summer after graduation; and
WHEREAS, William J. Partington was deployed to Vietnam on September 9,
1969; on March 2, 1970, in Quang Nam Province of South Vietnam, he was
killed as a result of multiple missile wounds from a hostile explosive
device while on a road mine sweep; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished servicemen who devoted themselves to military
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of this great Empire State and Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the dedication of Lance Corporal William J. Partington Memo-
rial Drive; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Lance Corporal William J. Partington.
