LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Chief Walter W. Singer III upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by the North Linden-
hurst Fire Department for 25 years of dedicated service on February 21,
2009

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Chief Walter W.
Singer III upon the occasion of his designation for special honor by the
North Lindenhurst Fire Department in recognition of his 25 years of
dedicated and distinguished service to the Department; and
WHEREAS, Chief Singer will be honored at the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department's 52nd Annual Inspection Dinner, to be held at the Depart-
ment's Straight Path Headquarters on Saturday, February 21, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Chief
Walter W. Singer III is such a firefighter; throughout 25 years of
devoted service, he has heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; and
WHEREAS, Chief Walter W. Singer III joined the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department on March 13, 1984; he became a member of Engine Company No. 1
and is still a valued member of the Company; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 25 years, Chief Singer's dedication to the
North Lindenhurst Fire Department has been constant; he has held the
Line Officer positions of Secretary/Treasurer, Drill Team
Secretary/Treasurer, Lieutenant, Captain of the Rescue Squad, 2nd Lieu-
tenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain of Engine Company No. 1, 2nd Deputy
Chief, 1st Deputy Chief, and Chief of Department 1996-1998, 2007 and
2008, and he is now once again serving as Chief of the North Lindenhurst
Fire Department in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Chief Walter W. Singer III is justly proud to have been one
of the first members of the North Lindenhurst Junior Fire Department to
achieve the rank of Chief of Department and is equally proud that his
son Brian is currently a Junior Member of the Department; and
WHEREAS, Chief Singer has received many awards recognizing his exper-
tise and his dedication to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department,
including the Rescue Call of the Year Life Saving Award in 1984, 1993
and 1994; Engine Company No. 1 High Department Percentage Award in 1985
and 1986; High Department Percentage, Rescue Award in 1985; High Overall
Percentage Award in 1985 and 1986; High Rescue Percentage and High
Rescue Call Percentage Awards in 1986 and 1987; High Company Percentage
Award, Engine Company No. 1 in 1986; and the High Department Percentage
Award in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Chief Singer is, in addition, a member of the Homeland Secu-
rity and the Haz/Mat Response Teams for both Suffolk County and the Town
of Babylon; and

WHEREAS, Chief Walter W. Singer III is a NYPD Sergeant; a lifelong
resident of North Lindenhurst, he and his wife Ellen continue to live
there with sons Ryan and Tyler; and
WHEREAS, Walter W. Singer III has given countless hours in service to
the North Lindenhurst Fire Department and his community and truly merits
the recognition and appreciation of his community and this Legislative
Body on behalf of the people of the State of New York; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Chief Walter W. Singer III, as he is honored on February 21,
2009, for 25 years of distinguished service with the North Lindenhurst
Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief Walter W. Singer III.
