LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the North Star Fund upon the occasion
of hosting its 2010 Community Gala

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time, society calls upon these particular organ-
izations to be recognized for the significance of their contributions
and efforts to assist others in developing the skills necessary to be
successful, productive citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the North Star Fund upon the occasion of hosting its 2010 Community Gala
on Thursday, April 29, 2010; and
WHEREAS, North Star Fund is New York's community foundation supporting
grassroots groups leading the movement for equality, economic justice
and peace; and
WHEREAS, By organizing donors, raising money for grants, and providing
technical assistance, North Star Fund supports efforts ranging from
better schools, housing and health care, to protecting civil liberties,
creating living wage jobs, and advocating for peace, freedom and human
rights; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1979, North Star Fund has distributed a
significant amount to 1,600 groups working to create a more equitable
and democratic city for all New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the North Star Fund upon the occasion of hosting its 2010 Commu-
nity Gala; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hugh Hogan, Executive Director, North Star Fund.
