WHEREAS, In Rochester, as elsewhere, the year 1900 marked the begin-

mounting problems that could have a negative effect on homeowners; and
WHEREAS, A few serious-minded, concerned men who owned property, or
represented others who had a vested interest in property, become active-

estate industry and real property ownership and formed a voluntary
membership group, The Real Estate Protective Association, which func-
tioned successfully for more than six years until the 1907 depression;
and
WHEREAS, By 1910, the renewed growth of the real estate industry
resulted in an influx of men entering the profession who, in turn,
invited other men to join them as members and, on October 6, 1910, this
newly-formed group adopted the name: The Real Estate Board of Rochester,
Inc. and elected W. H. Emery as its first president; and
WHEREAS, In October 1960, members of The Real Estate Board of Roches-
ter celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Association
and affirmed that the foundation for a greater and more beautiful City
of Rochester had been set; and
WHEREAS, By 1989, the marketing of real property by Real Estate Board
of Rochester members had broadened beyond Monroe County to include
several neighboring counties; to more accurately reflect this expansion,
the name Greater Rochester Association of REALTORS, Inc. (GRAR) was
appropriately adopted and continues to serve its professionals well; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Greater Rochester Association of REALTORS is dedi-
cated to enhancing professionalism, providing resources and education
for REALTORS, and positioning its members for success; and
WHEREAS, The association also continues to actively support the commu-
nity through advocacy to ensure the preservation of real property
rights, as well as through its support of the efforts of local charita-
ble programs which encourage homeownership, work to create sustainable
neighborhoods, and address critical housing needs through the REALTORS
Charitable Foundation; and
WHEREAS, As the Greater Rochester Association of REALTORS proudly
observes its 100th Anniversary, this Legislative Body is pleased to have
the opportunity to recognize its 100 years of service and to applaud it
for its continuing nurturing of professional standards and education;
