LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 71st Anniversary of L&B Spumoni
Gardens, Brooklyn, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize illustri-
ous culinary establishments which have positively impacted and substan-
tially contributed to the vitality of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 71st Anniversary of L&B Spumoni Gardens, Brooklyn, New York;
and
WHEREAS, L&B Spumoni Gardens was founded by the late Ludovico Barbati
in 1939; now in its 71st year of operation, it continues to be family
owned and operated; and
WHEREAS, A Bensonhurst, Brooklyn landmark, L&B Spumoni Gardens, famous
for its pizza and spumoni, prides itself on serving the same delicious
Italian ices and spumoni Grandpa Barbati sold off his horse drawn wagon
generations ago; and
WHEREAS, L&B Spumoni Gardens has been featured on an episode of the
Food Network's "Ciao America" program with Mario Batali and on a "Best
of Pasta Places" episode of the channel's "Best Of" series, both of
which were watched by millions of viewers; and
WHEREAS, A recent Zagat survey named L&B Spumoni Gardens one of
Brooklyn's Full Menu Best Buys, recommending its pizza and desserts, an
accomplishment of which it may be justly proud; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success and acclaim of this exceptional restaurant and recog-
nizes its many contributions to the Brooklyn community and economy; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 71st Anniversary of L&B Spumoni Gardens, Brooklyn, New
York, fully confident that in the future it will continue to enjoy the
same success and spirit which have characterized its past; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Barbati Family, proprietors of L&B Spumoni Gardens, 2725
86th Street, Brooklyn, New York 11223.
