LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Patrick Withers upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition as 2010 Rockland County
Hibernian Business Man of the Year

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Withers has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership, and consequent-
ly has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Patrick Withers upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition as 2010 Rockland County Hibernian Business Man of the Year;
and
WHEREAS, Born to Irish parents whose family roots go back to County
Fermanagh and County Donegal, Patrick Withers attended school in
Suffern, New York, where he distinguished himself as an award winning
runner on the track team; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Withers' service to the community began while still a
teenager, providing coaching services to the youth of Suffern, and shar-
ing with them the knowledge, good sportsmanship and fair play that he
had acquired and demonstrated himself in the sport of track; and
WHEREAS, The community service of Patrick Withers continued as a
police officer in the Town of Ramapo and Village of Suffern prior to
joining the ranks of the New York City Police Department; and
WHEREAS, During his years on the New York City police force, Patrick
Withers distinguished himself as a dedicated, committed and conscien-
tious law enforcement officer, receiving many citations for valor; and
WHEREAS, When Patrick Withers retired from the New York City Police
Department, he returned to Suffern, New York, and took over the family
business, Ireland's 32, a well-known establishment in Rockland County;
and
WHEREAS, Patrick Withers and Ireland's 32 are always prepared to
respond generously and compassionately to support local residents and
their families in time of need; and
WHEREAS, In addition to fundraising and assisting with social func-
tions at his daughter's parish school, Patrick Withers has also actively
participated in coaching its sports teams; and
WHEREAS, Selected as one of the recipients of the 2008 "40 and under
40" Award, Patrick Withers and his wife, Deirdre, are the proud parents
of two daughters, Caitlin and Niamh; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Patrick Withers has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Patrick Withers has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Patrick Withers upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition as 2010 Rockland County Hibernian Business Man of
the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Patrick Withers.
