LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Carmen J. Palma upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition at the 4th Annual Saint Joseph's Day
Table on Friday, March 19, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons who
provide exemplary service, whether through participation in voluntary
programs, through unique personal achievement in their profession or
other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Carmen J.
Palma upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition at
the 4th Annual Saint Joseph's Day Table to be held at the Mahoney State
Building, Buffalo, New York, on Friday, March 19, 2010; and
WHEREAS, In Sicily, during great drought and famine, the people made a
promise to Saint Joseph that if the drought would be lifted, they would
be indebted to him; the lords of the manor (landowners) promised to open
their homes and serve the poor in gratitude to Saint Joseph for his
intercession, hence, the tradition of the Saint Joseph's Day Table; and
WHEREAS, Carmen J. Palma has continually demonstrated extreme compe-
tence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in his unwav-
ering service to his community and subsequently, has been selected for
this most prestigious tribute; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary leader, Carmen J. Palma serves as the President
of Sorrento Cheese Italian Heritage Festival for Buffalo since 2001; he
is also a founder of Poppy's Pizzeria which is widely recognized as one
of the best pizzerias in town; and
WHEREAS, Carmen J. Palma is the past Director of West Side Business
and Taxpayer's Association as well as the past Director of West Side
Kiwanis Club; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his efforts of in-depth magnitude, Carmen
J. Palma received the 2010 God Family Country Award from Federation of
Italian American Societies of Western New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Carmen J. Palma, and to wish him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carmen J. Palma upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition at the 4th Annual Saint Joseph's Day Table on Friday, March
19, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carmen J. Palma.
