WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of The Jewish Association for Services for
the Aged Senior Center at the H.E.S. on Sunday, April 25, 2010, in
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA) was
created as a multi-service, autonomous agency affiliated with the Feder-
ation of Jewish Philanthropies (now UJA-Federation of New York) in June
of 1968; the agency's development began with a decision by the Feder-
ation's Committee on Communal Planning, which recognized that an esca-
lating number of elderly New Yorkers required coordinated programs and
services to meet their needs; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the organization was to attract lay and profes-
sional leadership with imagination and courage, and to mobilize the
financial resources to address all unfilled needs of the Jewish aged in
New York; in recent years, JASA has fulfilled the Jewish value of honor-
ing the elderly, while serving older adults from many other communities;
and
WHEREAS, JASA's mission is to sustain and enrich the lives of the
aging in the New York metropolitan area so that they can remain in the
community with dignity and autonomy; and
WHEREAS, JASA established its headquarters in Manhattan, as well as
eight community service offices in the boroughs, in its first year;
today, JASA and its affiliates constitute one of the largest community-
based, voluntary social service agencies serving the aged in the United
States; every year, JASA enriches the lives of more than 55,000 seniors
in New York City through a wide range of effective programs and
services; and
WHEREAS, JASA's network of 23 Senior Centers offers a wide range of
cultural and physical activities; its services include: well-balanced
hot meals, exercise classes, parties and trips, educational programs,
and access to Jewish Guild Libraries; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of The Jewish Association for Services
for the Aged Senior Center at the H.E.S.; and be it further
