LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the dedication and commitment shown by
New York City's Sanitation Enforcement Agents while performing their day
to day work responsibilities, and recognizing the critical need to
increase their safety while on the job

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life in their daily duties within
the workforce; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor
the dedication and commitment shown by New York City's Sanitation
Enforcement Agents while performing their day to day work responsibil-
ities, and to recognize the critical need to increase their safety while
on the job; and
WHEREAS, The New York City Sanitation Enforcement Agents (SEAs) proud-
ly represented by Local 1182 of the Communications Workers of America,
AFL-CIO, often face angry and aggressive violators while enforcing the
public health law and provisions of the New York City administrative
code relating to issues such as recycling, animal control, illegal post-
ing, the disposal of abandoned vehicles and the proper storage and
disposal of waste; and
WHEREAS, Employed by the New York City Sanitation Department, the
Enforcement Agents are subjected to the same dangers as Traffic Enforce-
ment Agents and other Uniformed Forces; and
WHEREAS, While those of the Uniformed Forces are covered by a law
which makes it a felony to assault them in the line of duty, the Sanita-
tion Enforcement Agents are not; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to join the members
of C.W.A. Local 1182 to bring the much needed awareness to this critical
issue and to support the passage of a law that will make assaulting a
Sanitation Enforcement Agent a felony; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor New York City's Sanitation Enforcement Agents, and to recognize
the dangers inherent in the Sanitation Enforcement Agent position; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James Huntley, President, Communications Workers of America,
AFL-CIO District 1, Local 1182.
