LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Angela Rosa Valenza upon the occa-
sion of her 102nd Birthday on April 17, 2010

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Angela Rosa Valenza upon the occasion of her 102nd Birthday on
April 17, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Angela R. Valenza is an active resident at the Dominican
Village, a non-sectarian, not-for-profit Independent and Assisted Living
Retirement Community, located in Amityville, Long Island, New York and
sponsored by the Sisters of St. Dominic; and
WHEREAS, The Dominican Village will recognize Angela R. Valenza at its
Annual Dinner Dance to be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 17, 1908, Angela R. Valenza is the daughter of
Maria and Ignatius who had come to the United States from Sciacca, Sici-
ly; she was raised on Elizabeth Street in Little Italy where the family
owned and operated a grocery store; the family later moved to Brooklyn,
Queens and the Rockaways; and
WHEREAS, Angela R. Valenza married Joseph Valenza when she was 36
years old, and they were happily married for 51 years; and
WHEREAS, For 22 years, Angela R. Valenza was employed by Metropolitan
Life Insurance Company where she performed clerical duties; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Dominican Village since 1997, Angela R.
Valenza had six brothers and five sisters; today, she is the proud Aunt
of 145 nieces and nephews and attributes her longevity to attitude,
gratitude and faith; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved lady has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Angela R. Valenza upon the occasion of her 102nd Birthday;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Angela R. Valenza.
