LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor David A. Paterson to
proclaim May 1, 2010 as Shorewalkers' Great Saunter Day in the State of
New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor those organ-
izations and events whose purpose is to promote and encourage the appre-
ciation and enjoyment of the natural resources which yet grace the envi-
ronment along the shores of New York City and its majestic Hudson River;
and
WHEREAS, The excursions of project Shorewalkers also provide a vehicle
to foster the maintenance of a healthy and productive lifestyle so
crucial to the quality of life enjoyed by the citizens of New York; and
WHEREAS, Shorewalkers has led over 3,000 shore expeditions in and
around New York City and along the Hudson River; and
WHEREAS, Shorewalkers has developed programs such as the Hudson River
Shore Trail and the Batt-to-Bear Trail, and the Great Saunter Foot Path
in order to explore the extensive shore areas in and around New York;
and
WHEREAS, This group has also devoted itself to raising public aware-
ness of the open space along the shore of Manhattan, promoting its
scenic beauty over the years; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 1, 2010, Shorewalkers will conduct "The
Great Saunter of 2010", a 32-mile walk around Manhattan Island, to show
New Yorkers the importance of preserving New York's magnificent water-
front; and
WHEREAS, Such events are crucial to creating cohesive and active
communities, which are truly the lifeblood of both New York City and the
entire State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor David A. Paterson to proclaim May 1, 2010 as Shore-
walkers' Great Saunter Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New
York, and Cyrus A. Adler, President, Shorewalkers Inc.
