LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending SPARKS upon the occasion of hosting
its Grand Opening Reception on Sunday, January 18, 2009, in Brooklyn,
New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
SPARKS upon the occasion of hosting its Grand Opening Reception on
Sunday, January 18, 2009, in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The keynote speaker for this fine event will be Rabbi Dr.
Abraham J. Twersky; and
WHEREAS, SPARKS is a Brooklyn based organization providing awareness,
relief, knowledge and support for women and their families facing a wide
variety of female health issues from premenstrual dysphoric disorder
(PSD) and infertility to postpartum depression and peri-menopause; at
the heart of SPARKS lies a dedicated network of mental health profes-
sionals -- psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers -- as well
as those who have struggled through and overcome various related condi-
tions; and
WHEREAS, SPARKS provides services which meet the specific needs of the
family unit, with sensitivity to each individual's unique experience of
Pre/Postnatal depression and respect for socioeconomic, cultural, racial
and gender issues; and
WHEREAS, SPARKS supports every individual's right to self-determina-
tion, to complete information and active participation in all health
care decisions; its practice guidelines provide for medical consulta-
tion, collaboration, referral and linkages along with health and human
services; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims are brought to our attention, they should be
celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of New
York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend SPARKS upon the occasion of hosting its Grand Opening Reception
on Sunday, January 18, 2009, in Brooklyn, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Esther Kenigsberg, Founder, Executive Director.
