LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Westbury High School Boys Varsity
Basketball Coach David Graff upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the educa-
tional leaders whose dedication and achievements have been devoted to
developing character and sportsmanship in youth, exemplifying the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize those individuals within our midst who have contributed great-
ly to the quality of our lives by providing exceptional leadership and a
commitment to excellence; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Westbury High School Boys Varsity Basketball Coach David Graff upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Coach David Graff has been teaching and coaching at Westbury
High School since 1989; he was an Honorable Mention All-City player at
Martin Van Buren High School in Queens, New York and then went on to
play at Adelphi University; and
WHEREAS, Coach David Graff started coaching the Junior Varsity at
Westbury after Coach Paul Hewitt left the school; in 15 years of coach-
ing Junior Varsity, Coach David Graff has helped the team compile an
impressive record including two undefeated seasons; and
WHEREAS, Coach David Graff took over the Varsity team in 2005; in his
five seasons as Head Coach, the team has compiled a record of 83 wins
and 22 losses for a .790 winning percentage; last season, the team won
the Long Island Class A Championship for the first time since 1996, and
Coach Graff was named "Nassau County Coach of the Year" by NEWSDAY; and
WHEREAS, Through his long and sustained commitment to his teams, Coach
David Graff has established himself as a devoted man who always acts
with dignity, integrity and class, thereby earning the respect of his
players, colleagues and the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Westbury High School Boys Varsity Basketball Coach David Graff
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach David Graff.
