LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing Phi Sigma Sigma of SUNY Oneonta for
its efforts on behalf of the National Kidney Foundation of Northeast New
York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
Phi Sigma Sigma of SUNY Oneonta for its efforts on behalf of the
National Kidney Foundation of Northeast New York; and
WHEREAS, Diseases of the kidney and urinary tract remain a major cause
of illness and death in the United States; over 26 million people in the
United States have kidney disease and it is estimated that as many as
1.2 million New Yorkers have some form of chronic kidney disease; and
WHEREAS, On October 26, 2008, the members of Phi Sigma Sigma of SUNY
Oneonta provided a commendable service to the community by taking part
in helping to spread awareness about chronic kidney disease, while rais-
ing funds to help support prevention programs and services that help
patients currently struggling with kidney disease; and
WHEREAS, One of the largest sororities on campus, the Epsilon Xi Chap-
ter of Phi Sigma Sigma was founded at SUNY Oneonta on March 17, 1989; it
currently has over 40 active members and is dedicated to making a great
difference on campus and in the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
women of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, In light of their commitment, dedication, and successful
efforts, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to extend its highest
commendation to the members of Phi Sigma Sigma of SUNY Oneonta; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Phi Sigma Sigma of SUNY Oneonta for its efforts on behalf of
the National Kidney Foundation of Northeast New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Phi Sigma Sigma of SUNY Oneonta.
