LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending THE SPOTLIGHT upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of a New York Press Association Better Newspa-
per Award

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently recorded the history of their communities and brought local
news and news of the larger world to their readers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
THE SPOTLIGHT upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of a New
York Press Association Better Newspaper Award; and
WHEREAS, These prestigious awards, presented March 26-27, 2010, at the
Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs, New York, celebrate newspaper excel-
lence in stories, photos and advertising that were published throughout
2009; and
WHEREAS, THE SPOTLIGHT received an award for Best Use of Multimedia
for its public payroll finder, a comprehensive database of public
employees, their titles and salaries; the public payroll finder is on
the paper's website; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of owner and publisher, John McIn-
tyre, THE SPOTLIGHT has delivered insightful, thorough, award-winning
journalism for decades and will continue to do so for many years to
come; and
WHEREAS, Newspapers such as THE SPOTLIGHT provide a tremendous service
to citizens across the State of New York by keeping them informed about
current events; the democracy of our State and Nation is strengthened by
a responsible citizenry which is actively engaged in reading and kept
abreast of news affecting their lives; and
WHEREAS, As THE SPOTLIGHT moves into the future, it carries with it
the legacy of a distinguished journalistic history and an outstanding
record of growth and achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend THE SPOTLIGHT upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of a New York Press Association Better Newspaper Award; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to THE SPOTLIGHT.
