WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those musical organizations that have brought entertainment and
cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Babylon Chorale upon the occasion of celebrating the conclusion of
its 60th season on Saturday, June 12, 2010; and

WHEREAS, From its simple beginnings in Babylon as a community chorus
under the baton of founding director H. Dudley Mairs, the Babylon
Chorale has grown into one of Long Island's premier choral groups; and
WHEREAS, The chorale's members attend weekly rehearsals from September
through June in order to present an annual concert series of three
distinctly different performances, a holiday concert in early December,
a concert of classical repertoire in late March and a themed concert in
June consisting of a variety of light music such as Broadway, pop, jazz;
and
WHEREAS, The dedication and hard work of its members are the heart and
soul of the Babylon Chorale, and many individuals have participated for
years, not only as singers, but also as board officers, trustees, or
volunteers for the innumerable tasks that must be done throughout the
year; and
WHEREAS, Aware of the many tasks over and above singing that the
organization needs done, Chorale Board members such as, President Kathy
Rial, Vice President Vincent Kavanaugh, Secretary Julie Madsen and Trea-
surer Jim DeCastro, dedicate themselves both to the musical and business
ends of the group - from music selection and music library to auditions
and membership to publicity and ticket sales, and even contracts; and
WHEREAS, The Executive Board and Trustees try to ensure all members,
including themselves, are afforded the opportunity to enjoy, and to be
an active part of, the family called The Babylon Chorale; and
WHEREAS, The tremendous success of the Babylon Chorale is in direct
correlation to the efforts of Conductor, Anne Kollar, Accompanist,
Russell Brand and its members, all of those whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeav-
ors on behalf of the Chorale and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Babylon Chorale upon the occasion of celebrating the conclu-
