LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Jamestown Community College
"Jayhawks" Women's Basketball Team on capturing the National Junior
College Athletic Association Division II Region 3 Championship

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor outstanding athletic teams that have exhibited the teamwork,
commitment and drive to succeed in athletic competitions that bring
honor to this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The Jamestown Community College "Jayhawks" Women's Basketball
Team has achieved success as champion of the National Junior College
Athletic Association's Division II Region 3 competition; and
WHEREAS, This talented group of young athletes embodies the true spir-
it of teamwork in achieving a goal, all while demonstrating the ability
to balance the commitments of academics and athletics; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing the depth of talent in the team roster, Head
Coach Keith Martin, along with Assistant Coaches Travis Wells and Beth
Beaver, cultivated in their players a commitment to teamwork and flexi-
bility in game play; and
WHEREAS, The "Jayhawks" Women's Basketball Team relentlessly pursued
victory in interscholastic play throughout the regular season and
beyond, winning Jamestown Community College's first women's basketball
championship since 1976, ending a 34-year dry spell for the women's
basketball program; and
WHEREAS, In the championship game with the Genesee Community College
"Cougars," the "Jayhawks" recovered from a shooting percentage of 22 in
the first half to shoot at 42.9 percent in the second half to win the
game with a final score of 64 to 53; and
WHEREAS, In their fourth consecutive match-up in the regional champi-
onship game battling against Genesee Community College, the Jamestown
Community College Team was victorious after three losses in a row; and
WHEREAS, The Jamestown Community College "Jayhawks" Women's Basketball
Team ended its season with a record of 25 - 7, including an 11-game
winning streak culminating in the regional championship title; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Jamestown Community College "Jayhawks" Women's Basketball Team
on capturing the National Junior College Athletic Association Regional
Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Jamestown Community College "Jayhawks" Women's Basketball
Team.
