LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Lakeland Copper Beech Middle
School upon the occasion of its designation as a 2010 Essential Elements
School to Watch

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of the Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as a 2010 Essential Elements School to Watch, to be celebrated on
June 25, 2010, in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, This special merit places Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School
of Yorktown Heights, New York, as one of 16 middle schools in New York
State that have received state and national recognition; and
WHEREAS, Through the adherence of the Regents Policy Statement on
Middle Level Education, and the Essential Elements of a Standard Focused
Middle Level School, along with the National Forum's School to Watch,
Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School has been developed into a first-rate
model educational program within the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School serves grades 6-8 in the
Lakeland Central School District; it has also received a GreatSchools
rating of 7 out of 10 based on its performance on state standardized
tests; and
WHEREAS, This special honor stands as a resolute testimony to Lakeland
Copper Beech Middle School's standards of excellence, its uncompromising
values, unparalleled dedication, and the special teamwork of its family
of students, parents, teachers and administrators, who share common
goals and uncommon expectations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School upon the occasion of
its designation as a 2010 Essential Elements School to Watch; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jean Miccio, Principal of Lakeland Copper Beech Middle
School.
