LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Michael Carroll upon the occasion
of his selection as a JOURNAL NEWS Rockland Scholar-Athlete of the Week

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice and team spirit, nurtured by dedicated
coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to young people within the State of New York who have inspired
and brought pride to their school and community by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Michael Carroll upon the occasion of his selection as a JOURNAL
NEWS Rockland Scholar-Athlete of the Week; and
WHEREAS, Nanuet High School senior, Michael Carroll is a record-hold-
er, track team captain, and a recipient of various awards for athletic
endeavors; and
WHEREAS, In his last year of varsity track competition Michael Carroll
continues to strive to achieve his vision of winning a State champion-
ship; he has competed in almost every event, from the high jump to short
sprints, and is currently focused on the pentathlon; and
WHEREAS, Michael Carroll holds the school's pentathlon record with
3,086 points and has come a long way from being an inexperienced
seventh-grader to a sixth-year seasoned veteran; he has been named to
all-league, all-county and all-section teams and has served ably as team
captain; and
WHEREAS, Michael Carroll maintains a 94.8 cumulative average despite
his year-round commitment to track and field, taking challenging courses
such as AP calculus to keep him working hard in the classroom and for
his future; he is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to
study engineering in college; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping young runners, in the summer he helps
out with the Nanuet Track Club, which is where he started on his path to
success in the sport; he enjoys helping the younger runners, giving them
insight and at the same time, learning from them; and
WHEREAS, A young man of singular distinction and superlative ability,
Michael Carroll has established a high standard of academic excellence
and purposefulness of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Micha-
el Carroll stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by his coaches, friends and
family; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Michael Carroll has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition at Nanuet High School; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Michael Carroll upon the occasion of his selection as a

JOURNAL NEWS Rockland Scholar-Athlete of the Week and to extend to him
its best wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-being, fully
confident of his response to a promising future and appreciative of the
model he represents for all aspiring young people of the Empire State;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Carroll.
