LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending R. Abel Garraghan upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by both the Community Foundation
of Dutchess County and the Ulster County Community Foundation on Septem-
ber 19, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend R.
Abel Garraghan upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by both the Community Foundation of Dutchess County and the Ulster
County Community Foundation at their Garden Party to be held on Sunday,
September 19, 2010, at Colonel Oliver Hazard Payne Mansion, Esopus, New
York; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, R. Abel Garraghan has contin-
ually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and
diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his community and
profession; and
WHEREAS, R. Abel Garraghan, President of Heritagenergy, has a life
long history of commitment to the community; currently, he is Chairman
of the Board of Trustees for Mount Saint Mary College; Trustee of Rhine-
beck Savings Bank; and Director of the Health Alliance of the Hudson
Valley; and
WHEREAS, Previously, R. Abel Garraghan served as Chairman of the
Benedictine Hospital Cancer Center Capital Campaign; Kingston Waterfront
Revitalization Commission and Ulster County Development Corporation; he
also served as the first Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Ulster
County Community Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, R. Abel Garraghan has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which R. Abel Garraghan has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend R. Abel Garraghan upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by both the Community Foundation of Dutchess County
and the Ulster County Community Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to R. Abel Garraghan.
